Celebrate Mardi Gras Without Hassle

Have you ever wished you can party and celebrate in the historic French Quarter in New Orleans, but did not feel like jamming elbow to elbow with thousands of other people while waiting in line for the port-a-potty on Bourbon Street? If you say so, a Mardi Gras theme party is the perfect stress-free party idea for you.

Just follow these easy step by step instructions on how to make a Mardi Gras theme party throwing. This is one of the most popular party themes, and when you throw the party you wont have to flash em shiny beads to get.

Step 1: Planning Your Party

1. Send invitations.

About four weeks before your party send the invitations. There are a lot of choices of theme invitations to choose from. Be sure to indicate on the invitation that this is a Mardi Gras theme party and guests are welcome to their craziest Big Easy-inspired outfit to wear (think jazz bands, jesters and gypsies). Your invitation will stand out more when you a favor by inviting, like a Mardi Gras mask or a strand of beads.

As the host, you will want to be decked out in all your finery theme - a quick and easy idea is to prove a cheap Mardi Gras jackets from a party store. For a good look at what you can Accessorize your outfit with a green felt hat (I recommend the green, because it can again be used for St. Patricks Day).

2. Select a Mardi Gras party food menu.

Decide when, where and how you are going to cost to operate. New Orleans is famous for its delicious food and want recipes that are easy to prepare to choose, but still in line with your jazzy New Orleans theme. My suggestion is red beans and rice, beignets, Jambalaya, gumbo and shrimp (my favorite) King Cake is made of the best recipe you can find.

For a festive buffet, use of colored confetti to decorate your buffet. Cover the top of the buffet with a green tablecover and your confetti will really stand out. Use colorful plates and cutlery to really add an exciting look to your party. Look at the fun your guests will have when their authentic New Orleans Hurricanes served in flashing light glasses.

3. Mardi Gras Theme Party Decorations and Atmosphere

A Mardi Gras theme party without music is like a Mardi Gras parade without beads. Create the mood come alive by using appropriate theme music plays softly in the background. I suggest that the songs of jazz band favorites like "Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Dixieland jazz. Mix all the style with a bit of Cajun Zydeco music, too. For easy Mardi Gras party music you can use my favorite compilation CD called "Drew's Famous Mardi Gras Party Music".

Hang gold and purple columns from the ceiling in the corners of the room and use sling, beads and other decor to fill the space in between. You can also use Scene Setters decorations to really transform the room. (The jazz musician and New Orleans street sign Scene Setters are my favorites). Remember the official Mardi Gras colors are purple, gold and green, so be sure your centerpieces and decorations coordinated to match.

Step 2: The Party

1. Arrival of guests:

Welcome guests and give each a handful of mixed beads in different shapes sizes and colors. Bead Trade will be your primary party activity, so be sure to download. This benefit is cheap and goes a long way in creating the mood for your Mardi Gras theme party come alive.

Guests can lead to a table with different styles of masks. Brief guests their favorite among the feathered and sequined masks to choose from. Not only do these disguise tie in great with the decor, they also have a game some time and conversation starter as your guests try to figure out who is who.

2. Games and activities:

* Remember we are your guests a handful of Mardi Gras beads above gives? Hopefully you've mixed in some very unique beads and lights flashing pens deal for your guests to encourage them.

* If you budget will allow, hire a fortune teller or palm reader. Your guests will have a good time with their cards read and laugh each other's fate.

* Set a table with a display of jazz instruments. Your guests can then pass the time trying out and exploring trumpets, trombones, drums, tambourines and other musical devices.

Step 3: Wrap Up Party

Time for party favors awards and prizes! A few ideas:

* Glow Products - There are many fun styles to choose from here, and now they are available in the official New Orleans party colors, it fits in perfectly with your theme.

* Crowns - It will not be a Mardi Gras without crowning someone the King and Queen.

Step 4: Clean Up

Usually the hosts on their own when it comes to clean, so unless you gather a small crew of helpers for the time it's a good idea of paper plates and plastic silverware to use. Good luck, have a big party, and throw me some beads!
